Reigning GP3 champion Alex Lynn will join runner-up in the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 Championship, Pierre Gasly at DAMS racing for the 2015 GP2 season.
DAMS, who had their most successful season ever in GP2 last year decided to go with their youngest ever driver line-up in an attempt to repeat last years title success.
Lynn secured the GP3 championship with a record points margin and went on to complete his first F1 test in Abu Dhabi. The young Brit is unsurprisingly ecstatic to be joining the champions and hope to once again fight for the crown.
“I am delighted to be racing with DAMS in 2015,” said Lynn. “Their record in the last few years speaks for itself and there’s nowhere else I wanted to be in GP2. My aim is to fight for the Championship. It’s a long time since anybody won GP2 in their first year, but if we can get off to a solid start there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to fight for wins and podiums straight away.”
Lynn is also happy to be working with Gasly who he considers a good friend.
“I also know Pierre very well, we’re good friends and it’s not often that team-mates see eye to eye so I’m looking forward to having a good year with him.”
Gasly, who battled hard with Carlos Sainz jnr on his way to eight top-3 finishes and runner-up spot in the FR 3.5 championship, is also excited about his prospects for 2015.
“I’m very happy to be joining DAMS,” said an elated Gasly. “For me, (DAMS) is a benchmark. It’s the team I wanted to work with.”
Like Lynn, Gasly is aiming for the drivers’ title but is also looking forward to working with his team-mate.
“Obviously my aim is the drivers’ title. I’m in the best and I’ll have the resources to achieve this objective. I’ll also have a very solid team-mate in Alex who I know well. We get on like a house on fire and that’ll be a plus for the team.”
Team boss Jean-Paul Driot is also extremely happy to confirm the two rookies. Driot is confident that the young pair can aim high in 2015.
Driot said: “I’m delighted to welcome Pierre Gasly and Alex Lynn to the team. It’s the youngest driver line-up we’ve ever had in GP2, but we’ve got two exceptionally talented guys who have a great future ahead of them.”
“Although the overall level in the championship will again be very high, I’m confident that with these drivers DAMS will prove worthy of its rank.”
