Ollie O’Donovan has confirmed that he take part in a full campaign of the 2015 FIA European Rallycross Championship in a brand new Ford Fiesta Supercar to be run by RX Racing Ltd and built by Tony Bardy Motorsport.
O’Donovan will have a busy Rallycross schedule this year as he will also drive the same Mk7 Ford Fiesta Supercar in the British Rallycross Championship, where he will carry title sponsorship from Yokohama. He will be competing in the WorldRX event at Lydden Hill and is considering plans to enter the Loheac FIA World Rallycross event also.
O’Donovan returned to Rallycross action in the second half of 2014, using a Mk2 Ford Focus but decided on the newer Fiesta for his dual championship assault this season.
“The Focus I used last season is a really good car, but there are areas where things can be improved, and the Fiesta will look a lot newer,” explained O’Donovan.
“The racing in Europe is amazing, those boys are so quick, so I need to new car to close the gap on them. It will be nice to race with an up-to-date package”
The Irish Rallycross driver competed in three FIA World Rallycross events last year. He suffered engine woes at the Lydden Hill round, whilst he managed to go further at Loheac. But his best outing of the year was in Argentina at the season finale, where driving the second of the Albatec Racing Peugeot 208 WRX Supercars he made it to the Semi-Finals.
O’Donovan will be the second Irish Rallycross driver to regularly compete in WorldRX events, following on from Derek Tohill who drove a Citroen DS3 for LD Motorsports in the full 2014 season.
