Collard Holds Off Ticktum to Win Race 2

1 Mins read

After starting on the second row, Ricky Collard powered through to the lead early on and held off the advances of Daniel Ticktum to claim his first win in car racing in race two at Brands Hatch.

James Pull started on the reverse grid pole, with the top 8 positions swapped. Gustavo Myasava continued his bad luck during the weekend by spinning on the formation lap. After a single formation lap, the 20 minute race got under way with good start for some midfield drivers, including Rafael Martins who jumped to 2nd place.

However; the start was interrupted with a spin from the midfield as Sennan Fielding hit Dan Baybutt. This was bad for 2 drivers who had shown pace during the weekend. Fielding continued to pits but ended up retiring, meanwhile Baybutt had suffered from a puncture. This brought out the safety car meaning that Collard could cement his lead after his good start.

At the restart, Collard lead from Martins, Pull and Ticktum. However, Ticktum continued his good pace by taking Pull for 3rd and continued to chase after Martins. This meant the top 3 pulled away from the rest of the field.

Myasava served his drive through for returning to his grid spot after his pre race spin. While Colton Herta managed to get 6th from Josh Smith. But with 11 minutes to go, the race was slowed once again as Martins pulled off with mechanical problems, but a dangerous positioned car meant that the safety car was called upon.

Ticktum had set his fastest lap under yellow flags, but pulled away with leader Collard at the restart. Herta continued his progress by taking Matheus Leist for 4th, but Leist found himself falling down the field over the course of the race, eventually losing positions to Sandy Mitchell and Jack Barlow.

In the final few laps, Enaam Ahmed ran off into the gravel after an incident with Tarun Reddy, it lost both of them vital points that would have helped them in the championship. Ticktum pressured for the lead but Collard kept the advantage and finished on top after 20 minutes of running.
