Kellett takes last-ditch victory

1 Mins read

James Kellett has taken victory in the second Ginetta GT5 Challenge race of the weekend at Oulton Park- his second ever race in the series.

Kellett took the flag by just 0.165 seconds, but only after a late lunge on the experienced Stewart Linn on the last lap.

Kellett and Linn were the big winners at the start, after pole-man and race one winner Ollie Chadwick spun off into the gravel and out of the race. Breaking free of the avoiding pack behind, led by Callum Pointon, Kellett and Linn set the trend of trading fastest lap for fastest lap throughout.

One lap later saw Pointon become the next frontrunner out, promoting Russ Simpson into the final podium spot ahead of Nick Zapolski and Luca Hirst, the trio were powerless to prevent the leading duo pull-out a ten-plus second lead ahead however.

With two laps to go Linn made his move out front, using all his experience to outwit Kellett and slither passed. However, Kellett returned the favour just one lap later and a matter of corners from the flag, slipping his Total Control Racing-ran Ginetta G40 into the lead and onto victory lane.

Hirst capitalised on the late demise of Simpson to take third, ahead of Zapolski and Charles Plumley. Rob Keogh again took the GRDC honours , finishing inside the top ten once again.
