Floersch Ecstatic With “Amazing” First Win

1 Mins read

Sophia Floersch expressed her delight and surprise after securing a hard-fought maiden Ginetta Junior Championship victory in the opening race at Thruxton.

From second on the grid, Floersch overtook pole-sitter Stuart Middleton off the line to secure a lead she wouldn’t relinquish.

The victory didn’t come without a fight though, with Dan Zelos putting the 14 year old under immense pressure in the closing stages, but Floersch held on for her and the HHC Motorsport team’s first win of the year.

“It feels amazing,” an elated Floersch told TCF. “I thought a win would come, but I didn’t expect it to happen today.

“I took the lead after the start and just managed to stay in front the whole time. On the last lap I had to defend quite a lot, but I stopped Zelos from overtaking and I’m very happy with that.”

The win marked Floersch’s first outright top three finish, her previous best having been a fifth in the opening race at Brands Hatch.

“We had the pace at Brands Hatch and Donington Park for top three finishes, but I didn’t get it together and we had some bad luck. Everything has just worked for us so far this weekend,” she commented.

Floersch will now start the second race of the weekend from pole position and is hoping to double her win tally.

“I will try to get another win, but all the fast guys are at the front of the grid now so it will be difficult but I will try my best,” she added.
