Newgarden flips in another huge Indy 500 practice crash

1 Mins read

Popular Josef Newgarden walked away unhurt but shaken after crashing his #21 Century 21 CFH Racing machine at turn one in the final hour of practice on Thursday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The American driver, who won his first ever IndyCar race at Barber Motorsports Park earlier this season, span into the outside SAFER barrier, with his car becoming airborne momentarily, before eventually coming to rest on its side at the entry to turn two.  Newgarden was able to extract himself from the wreckage before being taken to the infield Medical Centre where he was discharged and cleared to return to the track, once his car is rebuilt.

It is the second accident in two days that has seen a car go airborne, having seen fellow Chevrolet-powered Helio Castroneves crash at the same corner on Wednesday.
