Former Formula 1 driver Antonio Pizzonia took pole position for the season opening Auto GP race at the Hungaroring.
The Brazilian, who raced for both Jaguar and Williams between 2003 and 2005, set a best lap time of 1m33.375s to take top spot for Zele Racing, and will be joined on the front row by Argentine Facu Regalia of FMS Racing, who had been the pacesetter in both free practice sessions earlier in the day.
Third on the grid was the impressive teenager Leonardo Pulcini in the second of the two FMS Racing entries, with the Italian just beating Luis Sa Silva of Zele Racing into fourth by just 0.055s.
Russian Nikita Zlobin will start fifth for Virtuosi UK, alongside Paolo Coloni Racing’s Christof von Grunigen, while seventh placed Andres Mendez was the last driver to set a time in the session, albeit over four seconds off the pace of Pizzonia in his Zele Racing entry.
Neither Giuseppe Cipriani of Ibiza Racing Team nor Johnny Cecotto Jr of Virtuosi UK set a time during the session, with the Italian spinning out of the session, while the Venezuelan suffered with gearbox issues, although both will be allowed to start race one on Sunday.
