Racing Steps Foundation-backed Oliver Rowland snatched race two pole position from Tio Ellinas in the closing moments of qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps.
The Fortec Motorsports driver set a best time of 1m59.092s to beat Strakka Racing’s Ellinas by just 0.062s to take his first pole position of the 2015 Formula Renault 3.5 Series season, and become the fourth different pole sitter so far in five races.
Ellinas had look set to take his maiden pole position until Rowland set his final lap time, but the Strakka Racing driver will start on the front row for the first time this year.
Nyck de Vries will line-up third for DAMS alongside the second Fortec Motorsports entry of Jazeman Jaafar, while row three sees race one winner Matthieu Vaxiviere of Lotus line-up alongside the second DAMS of Red Bull Junior driver Dean Stoneman.
Nicholas Latifi, who missed out on a podium finish in race one on Saturday despite leading at the start, will start race two from seventh for Arden Motorsport, alongside Tom Dillmann of Jagonya Ayam with Carlin.
Egor Orudzhev of Arden and Pietro Fantin of International Draco Racing completed the top ten.
The session was halted in the early stages when Pons Racing’s Philo Paz Patric Armand crashed, and as a result will start the race from the back of the grid having failed to set a representative lap time.
