Rivett Delighted With “Massive” Oulton Victory

1 Mins read

Paul Rivett has expressed his delight at securing his first Renault UK Clio Cup victory of the season, and hopes his Oulton Park success will be the first of many this season.

The three-time Clio champion started the opening race in Cheshire second on the grid, however a great getaway saw him assume the race lead heading into the first corner.

It would be an advantage Rivett wouldn’t lose all race, though he had to defend throughout as championship leader Ant Whorton-Eales led the challenge from behind.

“I got off the line better, and then it was just a case of driving nice and neatly. I had to be quick enough to stay at the front, but not making a mistake that wouldn’t have just taken me out the race but maybe the whole line of us,” said Rivett.

The win was Rivett’s second with WDE Motorsport, his first having come in the 2014 season finale, and he feels it’s a reward for the team’s progress in the championship over the last few months.

“It’s massive for us,” he added. “It would have been nice to have got one before this, but it’s great to get a win on the board. There’s going to be plenty more to come hopefully too.

“We’ve become so much stronger as a team, they’ve become so good now that rather than running around managing everything on the weekend, I can leave the guys to it, know they’ll do a hugely professional job, and focus on my driving. I’m really pleased with how it’s all going.”
