1 Mins read

Formula Renault 3.5 Series Championship leader Oliver Rowland secured his second pole position of the season with a late quick lap at the Hungaroring deposing Egor Orudzhev.

Rowland, driving a Racing Steps Foundation-backed Fortec Motorsports entry, was the only driver to get below 1m29s during the Saturday morning qualifying session, setting a best time of 1m28.867s.

Arden Motorsport driver Orudzhev joins him on the front row of the grid, with the SMP Racing-backed Russian driver having his best qualifying performance so far this year, setting a time of 1m29.077s.

Matthieu Vaxiviere will line-up third for Lotus, alongside the second Fortec entry of Jazeman Jaafar, while the third row of the grid will see Tom Dillmann of Jagonya Ayam with Carlin alongside Roberto Merhi of Pons Racing.

Canadian star Nicholas Latifi will start seventh for Arden Motorsport alongside Pietro Fantin of International Draco Racing, while Aurélien Panis of Tech 1 Racing and Tio Ellinas of Strakka Racing complete the top ten.

As promised, Meindert van Buuren was back in the second Lotus seat after missing the collective tests on Friday due to ‘contract issues’, but could only qualify fourteenth.

Gustav Malja will start twentieth and last on the grid for Strakka Racing after stopping on track at turn thirteen before being able to set a competitive lap time.
