Volkswagen Andretti Autosport Ready For Daytona GRC

2 Mins read

The Volkswagen Andretti Autosport rallycross team are ready to build on their opening Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship weekend at Fort Lauderdale where Scott Speed finished second to Ken Block and Tanner Foust scored a top five finish.

After the X Games event held at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, normal service resumes this weekend as the Red Bull GRC visits the legendary Daytona International Raceway for the first of four double header events in the 2015 Calendar. The team is looking for an improved performance at Daytona after last year when Speed and Foust finished the 2014 Supercar Final in sixth and tenth places respectively. However hopes are high after Speed’s win in the X Games at the wheel of his Volkswagen Beetle GRC Supercar.

To further spur on the team as well as the other Red Bull GRC competitors this weekend, as this is a double header, there are double the points on offer, meaning that the Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ Championships could see a big change after round three is done on Sunday.

Scott Speed is aware of what is needed this weekend to score wins in both rounds

“I’m really pumped to get into Daytona and start this weekend on the right foot,” said Speed. “We’re coming with great momentum from the first two races, especially X Games, and this next event will be important to the team. Since it’s a double-header, we need to run clean and maintain what we can control.”

Tanner Foust has been amongst the fastest drivers in both Free Practice and Qualifying in previous rounds this year and he is eager to transfer that pace into race wins.

“The first race of the season is always a great test of how well the teams have done of preparing their cars during the off season,” said Foust. “So far, Scott and I have shown the performance of the Beetle GRC and we know there is more to come. The level of competition in the Global Rallycross Series this year is undeniably higher than in previous years, so it makes an awesome show for the fans. I’m looking forward to the double-header in Daytona to take the speed we have found in the previous races and show some results for the No. 34 machine.”

Rounds two and three of the 2015 Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship take place at Daytona International Raceway this weekend.
