Luca Ghiotto secured his third pole position of the GP3 Series at the Hungaroring after a late quick lap displaced Emil Bernstorff by just 0.036s.
The current championship leader also secured the four-point bonus to extend his lead to nine points heading into this afternoon’s first race of the weekend at the Hungarian track.
Arden International driver Bernstorff was on course for his first pole of the year until Ghiotto’s late lap, with the Anglo-Danish driver making a mistake on his own final lap to deny him the opportunity to improve his time.
Highly rated ART Grand Prix duo Esteban Ocon and Marvin Kirchhöfer will start the race from third and fourth on the grid respectively following the exciting thirty minute qualifying session, while Koiranen GP duo Jimmy Eriksson and Matt Parry were fifth and sixth.
Alex Palou continued his strong qualifying efforts in 2015 with seventh for Campos Racing, but will be looking to finally secure his first points of the season after problems throughout the year so far.
Ferrari Driver Academy driver Antonio Fuoco was the leading Carlin driver in eighth, ahead of Silverstone race winner Kevin Ceccon of Arden International, while Pal Varhaug of Jenzer Motorsport completed the top ten.
