Hand: “We Will Go On And Win The Championship”

1 Mins read

Ash Hand has told TheCheckeredFlag.co.uk that he believes he is the driver to beat in the Renault UK Clio Cup this season after his stunning recent run of five wins in the last eight races.

Hand has been the standout driver in the championship in the last few meetings, with a victory at Croft last time out meaning the Team Pyro man has now won half the races so far this campaign.

On top of those five successes, Hand has added three other podium finishes to close to within five points of the championship lead, filling the 21 year old with belief that he is the man to go on and win the title this year.

“We’ve had a great year so far. The team have given me a fantastic car every weekend, and I feel I’ve done a really good job so far. We came back this year really well prepared and it’s paid off,” Hand reflected.

“I do think at this time of the season that we will go on and win the championship. I feel that out there at the minute, we’ve had more wins than anybody else, so on those stats you have to be the driver to beat. Every time I go on the circuit I feel I can win and they’ve got to stop me doing that.”

Next up for Hand and co after an extended summer break is a trip north to Knockhill, and Hand is confident of continuing his strong form in Scotland having taken a podium finish and a pair of fastest laps there last season.

“We’re looking good for the remainder of the season,” he added. “I’ve got the lap record at Knockhill so we go there knowing we’ve got a good plan for the weekend and set-up for the car, so we’ll be quick, we’ve just got to make sure we convert that into a double win.”
