Positive Weekend For Jimmy Eriksson

1 Mins read

After a disappointing weekend at the Red Bull Ring for Jimmy Eriksson, the veteran GP3 Series driver returned to the points by finishing in the top five in both races at Silverstone.

Having qualified his Koiranen GP car in fifth Saturday morning for the feature race that evening, the Swede then finished the race in this position having held fourth place until the final lap when he was passed by championship leader Luca Ghiotto.

Eriksson’s fifth place finish in the feature race resulted in a fourth place slot on the grid for the 15-lap sprint race on Sunday morning; where the 24-year-old maintained fourth place from lights to flag – despite pressure from team-mate Matt Parry in the closing stages.

Having scored a total of 18 points (10, in the feature race and the remaining eight in the sprint race) the Swede has now leapt from seventh in the overall championship standings to fifth.

“Compared to Austria, where we struggled massively with tyre degradation, this was a much better weekend; but I race to win this season and I can’t say I’m too thrilled with these results,” says Jimmy Eriksson. “We scored a decent amount of points here this weekend, but we do aim for more and we know we still have a lot of work ahead of us.”
