Bobby Thompson takes terrific VW Cup pole at Snetterton

1 Mins read

Team HARD’s Bobby Thompson claimed a strong pole in the VW Racing Cup at Snetterton setting a blistering time that couldn’t be bettered by the rest of the field.

Robert Barrable, in the #98 VW Golf, set pace early on in the session with a time of 2:08.243 good enough for pole for a time.

Thompson didn’t let that pole time settle for long as he stormed in an early 2:07.987 to fire a warning shot to the rest of the field that he meant business, before further extending his time down to 2:07.020 – a time he, and the rest of the field, couldn’t improve on.

That all meant the most action happened behind them, especially for second place as Phil House and Joe Fulbrook exchanged fast times to try and start on the front row alongside Thompson.

Jack Walker-Tully, Lucas Orrock and Joe McMillan also got involved in that dice for second, as well as third, fourth and fifth before the flag fell.

A testament to how quick the top five were, which excluded Orrock – he will start sixth, is shown by the fact that first to fifth were covered by half a second.

Orrock finished sixth with a time of 2:07.649 to park himself a tenth-and-a-half ahead of Robert Barrable who couldn’t make the most of early progress.

Aaron Mason will start in eighth place setting a time of 2:07.961 and Michael Epps is ninth only two-hundredths behind.
