Scott Speed Signs Two Year Contract Extension With VARX

1 Mins read

Prior to Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross‘ home round in Washington, D.C., the team announced they had reached an agreement to extend the contract of Scott Speed for another two years.

Speed, who has been with VARX since their first race in Global Rallycross in Barbados last year, has taken three of his five career wins with the team, plus the gold medal at this year’s X Games Austin event.

Speaking in D.C. about his new deal, Speed said: “I feel really at home. I really get along with Michael (Andretti) a lot, I’m very lucky to have found a team owner that is as into the racing as I am and I just really feel at home with everyone.”

The Californian, who also tested for Andretti’s Formula E team last summer before making four starts in the all-electric championship’s inaugural season, also hinted at the possibility of the option to do more FE races, although he admitted that GRC is his main focus at the moment.

“The FE stuff is fun but on a part time, would I do it? Yeah, for sure I would do it if there’s no conflicts,” he said. “But my priority is for sure here (in Global Rallycross) because this is the future of motorsports.

“I have a great, great situation with Volkswagen and the team and I think it’s just a matter of time before we get our stuff sorted out and we’re the dominant team in the paddock and that’s more important to me. I think that’s going to be more fun.”

Speed has also built up a strong relationship with Volkswagen over the last year, the bond with the German marque playing a large role in his final decision.

“I go this way mostly because of my relationship with Volkswagen and Andretti, I feel really at home,” the former NASCAR racer said. “I’ve got a really great team around me, the best team around me I’ve ever had in my life.”
