The Formula Renault 3.5 Series will have a new team after Amato Ferrari, the owner of successful sportscar team AF Corse, created Spirit of Race to join the championship in 2016.

AF Corse currently participate in a number of championships around the globe, including the GT Open that Formula Renault 3.5 will support for a number of rounds in 2016 after Jaime Alguersuari Senior’s RPM Racing outfit assumed sole control of the series following Renault’s decision to withdraw its support at the end of this season.

“Formula Renault 3.5 always attracted me by representing an excellence in the single-seater worldwide competition,” said Ferrari. “I am enthusiastic ahead of this new challenge, where I will bring long term experience and relationships gathered in decades of motor racing activities.

“The level of the series represents a great challenge for me and I will work hard to maintain the same level of performance, [in keeping with] my racing history.”

“I would like to thank Mr Alguersuari and RPM for the warm welcome received, and I look forward to starting on track operations.”
