Another pole for Rowland at the Nurburgring

1 Mins read

Oliver Rowland continued his domination of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series weekend at the Nurburgring by taking his second pole position of the weekend on Sunday, and will be looking for his first double-win weekend later today.

The British driver set a late quick lap of 1m40.637s to lead the way, with the Racing Steps Foundation-backed Fortec Motorsports driver 0.269s clear of second placed Pietro Fantin of International Draco Racing.

Fantin, a podium finisher last weekend at Silverstone, was 0.070s faster than Tech 1 Racing’s Roy Nissany, who will be looking to make amends for his early retirement in race one on Saturday during this afternoon’s second race.

Tom Dillmann had been quickest with just a few minutes of the session remaining but was forced to settle for fourth in his Jagonya Ayam with Carlin machine, while Strakka Racing lockout the third row, with Tio Ellinas ahead of Gustav Malja, the two separated by just 0.033s.

Dean Stoneman was seventh quickest for DAMS, with championship contender Matthieu Vaxiviere a disappointing eighth for Lotus; the Frenchman lost further ground in the championship battle on Saturday and will be hard pressed not to fall even further behind during race two.

Saturday’s runner-up Nyck de Vries could not match his performance during qualifying from yesterday, qualifying down in ninth, while Tech 1 Racing’s Aurélien Panis completed the top ten.
