Anthony Ayres has been named as the first entrant for the 2015 Kick Start Energy Ginetta Junior Winter Series, with his car-racing debut to come with Mectech Motorsport.
Ayres has competed with Mectech’s karting squad for the past six years, racing in the X30 LGM Kart Series this season, and will make his transition to car-racing with the Essex-based outfit.
He will compete in the Winter Series at Snetterton on November 7/8 ahead of a planned full season in the BTCC support series in 2016, and has already got behind the wheel of a G40J in preparation.
“I am really looking forward to joining the grid,” said Ayres, who’s first test came at Rockingham during the Ginetta Summer Festival in July.
“I’m hoping the Winter Series will give me the experience I need to be competitive in next year’s championship. I also want to develop further as a driver with the help of Bradley Smith and the Mectech Team.”
Mectech will be making their Ginetta Junior debut, having entered Ginetta racing for the first time this year, running team manager Bradley Smith in the Ginetta GT4 Supercup.
“It’s great seeing Ant make the step up from karts to cars. It’s a lot to learn and a big change but he is willing to put in the hard work and we should be in for a good 2016,” said Smith, who’s won one Supercup race so far.
“Having Ant in the team for the last five years means he already has a good idea of how the team operates and knows all the staff which should help settle into the busy paddock at the BTCC events, I’m looking forward to seeing him racing.”
