Dillmann puts Carlin on top in France

1 Mins read

Frenchman Tom Dillmann was quickest for Jagonya Ayam with Carlin in the collective tests around the Bugatti circuit at Le Mans on Friday.

Dillmann broke the circuit lap record in the process, with his best time of 1m22.321s quicker by 0.310s from Russian Egor Orudzhev of Arden Motorsport.

Red Bull-backed DAMS driver Dean Stoneman was third quickest, while championship leader Oliver Rowland placed fourth despite the Racing Steps Foundation-backed Fortec Motorsports driver being the only driver in the field not to improve his time in the second session.

Rowland brings a fifty-point lead to France, and if he can maintain or increase that advantage coming out of the event, he will clinch the championship with a round to spare.

His main rival for the championship, Frenchman Matthieu Vaxiviere, was fifth quickest on Friday for Lotus, with Tio Ellinas, a winner in the past two rounds at Silverstone and the Nurburgring, was sixth for Strakka Racing.

Double podium finisher at the Nurburgring, Nyck de Vries, was seventh in the second DAMS entry, while Andre Negrao, back in the series for the first time since the 2013 season, was eighth for his father’s International Draco Racing team. Draco are running just the one car this weekend after both Pietro Fantin and Bruno Bonifacio exited the team ahead of the event.

Sean Gelael of Jagonya Ayam with Carlin and Beitske Visser of AVF completed the top ten on Friday, with qualifying for race one taking place on Saturday morning.
