JJ Ross To Make Clio Cup Debut At Silverstone

1 Mins read

Another new face is set to join the Renault UK Clio Cup grid at Silverstone next weekend, with James JJ’ Ross joining Team Cooksport for the penultimate meeting of the season.

Ross is already a double champion despite being just eighteen years old, first winning the MSA British Rallycross Junior Championship back in 2012.

Ross went on to win the BRSCC Ford Fiesta Junior Championship a year later, an achievement that earned him a prize test outing in a Motorbase Performance BTCC Ford Focus.

After finishing ninth in Class C of the Senior Fiesta Championship last season, Ross currently lies second in the class standings thanks to a run of seven consecutive victories.

“The Renault UK Clio Cup is a route I’m looking at for the future so I was never going to turn down the opportunity to race with Cooksport at Silverstone,” said Ross.

“I’ve raced against some of the current drivers before in Fiestas including Rory Collingbourne, Tom Grundy and Charlie Ladell so I hope I can be in among them at Silverstone – that would be my target.”

The Watford-based teenager joins fellow debutant Alex Sedgwick and series regulars Rory Collingbourne and George Jackson in the Cooksport ranks for the Silverstone outing.

“JJ’s achievements to date speak for themselves – he’s a talented driver with tons of potential and truly capable of making a big impact at Silverstone,” commented BTCC driver and team principal Josh Cook.

“It’s really exciting to welcome another youngster into the team for us and the championship. The Clio Cup is definitely the place to be for young aspiring drivers…”
