The existing Renault UK Clio Cup race lap record at Silverstone was beaten by nearly a second in a fast-paced second practice session today ahead of the penultimate meeting of the 2015 season.
All twenty entrants set their best times in the second of the two sessions in the Silverstone sunshine, with three-time Clio champion Paul Rivett setting the pace with a best lap of 1m 04.358s,
That edged out championship leader Ash Hand by just 0.016s, with his Team Pyro team-mate Josh Price impressing with the third fastest time as he kicks off his second outing of the campaign.
The returning Dan Holland was fourth as championship contenders Ant Whorton-Eales and Ashley Sutton rounded out the top six, with the former two tenths of a second off Rivett’s best and Sutton a tenth further back.
JamSport Racing’s recent strong spell looks set to continue, with Tom Grundy and Luke Kidsley rounding out the top eight ahead of the quickest of the debutants, Michele Puccetti.
Behind Charlie Ladell in tenth were the five other newcomers, Alex Sedgwick, Ben Davis, Tom Witts, Tom Butler and Sam Watkins, with just over three tenths of a second covering the quintet.
Masters Cup champion-elect Mark Howard was 17th fastest, while a subdued day for Team Cooksport saw Rory Collingbourne and George Jackson in 16th and 20th respectively.
