Ashley Sutton’s hugely impressive maiden season in the Renault UK Clio Cup has seen him already collect more points and more podium finishes than any ‘rookie’ driver in the series since 2010.
The 21 year old has been a revelation in the Clio Cup since his move from Formula Ford GB, with a second place finish in his debut race at Brands Hatch setting the tone for a podium-filled campaign.
Sutton has finished in the top three in ten of the fourteen races so far this season, with his victory at Rockingham earlier this month being his third of the campaign so far.
Those results mean that even with four races remaining of the season, the Team BMR-backed racer has already surpassed the points totals accumulated by the top ‘Rookie’ drivers in each of the last five seasons:

Sutton heads into the final four races of the 2015 season right in contention for the drivers title. If he emerges victorious in the championship battle, he would become the first Rookie to win the outright title for over a decade, since Jonathan Fildes in 2003.
