2015 Renault UK Clio Cup: Title Permutations

1 Mins read

Ash Hand and Ashley Sutton head into this afternoon’s final round of the 2015 Renault UK Clio Cup season in a head-to-head duel for the championship drivers title.

The penultimate race of the year yesterday saw Sutton take his fourth win of the year to close the gap at the top of the standings, but Hand climbed his way through to second place to maintain his advantage, while a retirement for Ant Whorton-Eales ended his challenge.

Whorton-Eales does start Round 18 from pole position in his Maximum Motorsport Clio, with Team Pyro stablemates Sutton and Hand lining up in second and sixth respectively for the live-televised encounter at 13:30.

Permutations:

  • If Hand finishes ahead of Sutton, the title would go his way regardless of where they finished, and a podium finish is enough for Hand even if Sutton was to win the race and take fastest lap.
  • If Sutton wins the race and Hand finishes fourth or lower though without posting the fastest lap, the title would go Sutton’s way.
  • Sutton can also win the title if he comes second, as long as Hand finishes sixth or lower and doesn’t set the fastest lap.
  • If Sutton finishes third or lower he cannot win the title though courtesy of the eighteen points Hand holds on dropped scores.

Full championship standings ahead of the race can be found here.
