20Ten Racing will run a four car line-up in this weekend’s Renault UK Clio Cup season finale at Brands Hatch GP, with Ben Palmer joining the team for his championship debut.
20 year old Palmer was a multiple karting champion in his formative years, winning regional and club-level titles, whilst also competing on a national level as a team-mate to current Clio Cup title contender Ashley Sutton.
Palmer made the step up to car-racing in 2013, and duly finished second overall and won class Z in the BARC Lancaster Insurance MG Owners Club ZR Championship, before finishing second in class the following season.
“The UK Clio Cup is where I want to be in 2016 and this is an opportunity to impress a few potential sponsors,” commented Palmer.
“Every driver in the Clio Cup is very fast and both the car and the Brands Hatch GP circuit this weekend will be new to me. On saying that, I have two test sessions on Friday to acclimatise so hope to get inside the top ten if not in qualifying then certainly one of the two races.”
Palmer joins Graham Field, Sam Watkins and Tom Butler in the 20Ten ranks, the latter two having made their Clio Cup debuts at Silverstone two weeks ago. It’s the first time 20Ten have made a four car entry in their five year spell in the series.
“We’re very pleased to have Ben with us for this weekend,” commented team principal Simon Hunt.
“His karting record is very impressive and drivers with strong karting backgrounds tend to adapt to the UK Clio Cup car really well. He has looked very good straight away in cars too. Having three hungry young drivers is also very good for 20Ten as they will push each other for strong results.”
