Caroline Crowned Provisional Junior Champion Pending Appeal

1 Mins read

The destination of the 2015 Ginetta Junior Championship title is set to be confirmed in the MSA Court of Appeal following a dramatic season finale at Brands Hatch.

Jamie Caroline has been crowned the provisional champion on countback of race wins compared to season long rival Senna Proctor, with the top two having currently finished the season level on points.

The results remain provisional however until a court hearing decides whether to uphold the appeal of Stuart Middleton over a false start penalty awarded to him for the start of Round 20

The penalty (a drive through penalty, converted to a minimum of 30 seconds added to his competitors race time as it was issued after the race) drops Middleton from 4th to 20th in the final result, promoting Caroline up a position to secure the points required to take the title.

Caroline had earlier been one of three front-runners to be awarded a drive through penalty during the race for a false start, with Middleton and Proctor being the only drivers in the top five not to be awarded such a penalty at the time.

The penalties for Caroline, Billy Monger and Dan Zelos promoted Proctor into the race lead, which he would convert into victory, while they finished 17th, 18th and 20th respectively on the road – which initially meant Proctor was named provisional champion until the stewards enquiries.

A date has not yet been confirmed for the MSA Court of Appeal hearing.
