Finesse To Make Clio Cup Return With Debutant Streather

1 Mins read

Finesse Motorsport will make their first Renault UK Clio Cup appearance since 2013 this weekend at Brands Hatch, with 2015 Michelin Clio Cup Series vice-champion Paul Streather making his series debut with them.

Streather has been a front-runner in the Clio Series for the past two seasons as a largely privateer entrant. He followed up a run to fourth in the standings in 2014 with a championship challenge this year, with four wins and three other podium finishes taking him to second in the standings.

“I’ve taken on some much bigger outfits in the Clio Cup Series and with the help of a couple of motor sport chums from Finesse we came very close to winning it,” said the 26 year old.

“It’s something I’m very proud of and it will be interesting to see how, with a similarly small set-up this weekend, we are able to perform in the UK Clio Cup when the competition really steps up a gear. It will be a good taster for 2016.”

Finesse previously ran Jake Giddings for two seasons in the Clio Cup in 2012 and 2013, with Aaron Williamson also running for them in the first half of 2012, taking a best finish of third place in the Brands Hatch season opener.

This outing will mark the team’s first competitive action with the fourth-generation Clio racer, and both team and driver are hoping to mount full campaigns in the Clio Cup next season.

“We want to come back very much,” said team principal Neil Giddings. “The UK Clio Cup has a high profile and drivers who do it tend to be very strong in every championship they go and do. As for this weekend… I believe Paul can get into the top six and that is what we are aiming for.”
