GP3 Feature Race Cancelled due to barrier repairs

1 Mins read

Following Carlos Sainz Jr‘s crash in Formula 1 practice, the decision was made by race control to cancel the GP3 Series Feature Race.

The damage sustained to the techpro and Armco barriers, was at a level that the repairs were not able to be completed in time for the session to take place resulting in the cancellation.

Due to the scheduled running of Formula One qualifying and the GP2 Series Feature Race, and issues to do with low lighting as was demonstrated first hand in GP3 practice yesterday, it would not be possible for the race to take place later on today.

It has been announced that the Feature Race will in fact go ahead on Sunday morning, at 9am local time consisting of 15 laps. The Sprint Race will take place at 10:30am and will also be made up of 15 laps.

Additionally, following the qualifying session Koiranen GP‘s Matt Parry was handed a three place grid penalty as a result of blocking Konstantin Tereshchenko. The Brit now starts from ninth place.
