2016 VW Cup Campaign For Production GTi Champion Witts

1 Mins read

Tom Witts will swap his Mk2 Volkswagen Golf for a brand new Mk7 model next season after confirming a campaign in the 2016 Volkswagen Racing Cup with Maximum Motorsport.

Witts heads into the 2016 season as the reigning Mk2 Production GTi Champion, a stunning campaign seeing him win eleven of the twelve races this season in his third season in the championship.

The 23 year old also has experience in the Renault UK Clio Cup under his belt, having joined Maximum to compete in the final two rounds of the 2015 campaign – taking a strong fifth place finish in his first race at Silverstone.

“The VW Cup is a really highly contested championship with lots of quick drivers, but I will be looking to be in the mix with them all and contesting for race wins,” said Witts.

“It was a great experience to race in such a high level championship as the Clio Cup and it would have been great to do a full season. However it’s an amazing opportunity for me to race in a brand new car in another top level highly competitive championship and I look forward to the challenge.”

Witts’ all new Maximum Motorsport Mk7 Golf is currently in build and will be on display for the first time at the 2016 Autosport International Show, with this news coming shortly after it was announced Maximum would be stepping up to the BTCC next year.

“I am over the moon that Tom (Witts) will be racing our new MK7 Volkswagen Golf GTi in 2016,” added Maximum Motorsport MD, Stewart Lines.

“I am sure he will have every chance of winning races and challenging for the Volkswagen Racing Cup title with the Maximum Motorsport team.”
