Ollie Pidgley has set his sights on a return to tin-top racing in 2016 with a campaign in the Renault UK Clio Cup.
Pidgley previously competed in the Michelin Clio Cup Series in 2014, before turning to single-seater racing last season in MSA Formula.
A partial campaign with Richardson Racing saw Pidgley secured eight top fifteen finishes including a best of tenth in his penultimate race at Knockhill.
Having secured a top six championship finish in the Clio Series, Pidgley says he is excited to return to tin-tops and is assessing a number of options in the Clio Cup paddock.
“The past year has been positive because it has given me a whole new skill set and testing has gone so well that we’re ahead of schedule in many respects, which gives me more time to focus on the finer details of my driving during the build-up to the 2016 season,” said Pidgley.
“If the season was to start now, I would be satisfied that I’m in a position to be competitive from the off and hit the ground running. I’m looking forward to taking this next step.”
Pidgley is making the step with support from successful Clio Cup team owner Danny Buxton, himself a former Clio Cup drivers champion in 2001.
“Ollie is embarking on a completely new chapter and I can’t think of any reason why he can’t lead the way in the 2016 Renault UK Clio Cup,” said Buxton.
“From what we’ve seen in testing, his performances have been very impressive and, after some more hard work and preparation during the winter months, he is sure to turn quite a few heads come the start of the season.”
