Having won the Formula Karts Stars Championship in 2015, Ross Martin will make the jump to single seaters for the new season with a deal seeing him compete in MSA Formula.

His signing was revealed at the Autosport International Show, with the Scot announcing his contract with Fortec Motorsports.

He won’t be the first karting champion to step up to MSA Formula, with last season’s champion Lando Norris making the leap to the series having won the World Karting crown.

Martin recently competed in a test for the outfit overseas: “I’m looking forward to working with Fortec, it is a championship-winning team. The test in Valencia was a great way to get to know everyone.”

He hasn’t been alone recently though, with multiple Le Mans 24 Hour winner Allan McNish having taken over as his mentor: “He’s been giving me advice for three years. Having him in my corner has been a great help and advantage. Hopefully he’ll come to a few races this season. I would love to match his Le Mans record one day.”

“We have a worthy champion here. A very able driver.” commented Formula Kart Stars Chairman, Carolynn Hoy. “After his first test with Fortec, he’s already showing he’s got great potential for 2016 and beyond. He’s going to be carrying the torch for us and I’m certain he will be an excellent ambassador for the series.”

The title ensured Ross Martin’s drive for this season was fully funded, as he joins Alex Quinn, another highly anticipated karting graduate, in the Fortec line up. The opening round will be at Brands Hatch in early April.
