Vauxhall Motorsport Junior Team confirm third BRC entry

1 Mins read

Following the announcement that Mattias Adielsson and Robert Duggan would be taking part in the MSA British Rally Championship for the Vauxhall Motorsport Junior Team last Thursday, the team have unveiled a third driver for their 2016 championship campaign.

Joining the previously announced pair to drive in a trio of Vauxhall Adam R2’s is Arron Windus; The Australian has been competing in the Victorian Rally Championship and took victory at an event in 2015.

“We’re really looking forward to our first season with the ADAM R2 in the British Rally Championship,” said Simon Mauger, Vauxhall Motorsport’s Team Principal and current National Asphalt Rally Champion. “We’ve just been through an incredibly difficult driver selection process, due to the high standards of those on our shortlist, but our final three show immense promise.”

The Adam R2’s will be fitted with a naturally aspirated 16-valve version of the 1.6-litre production engine. The engine has been rebuilt using a bespoke crankshaft, con-rods, pistons and cylinder head to produce a maximum of 185PS. A Sadev sequential gearbox provides power through the front axle and is complemented with a Reiger race suspension with three-way adjustable damper units.

“The ADAM R2 is an exceptionally competitive rally car,” said Mauger. “With skilled and ambitious drivers and Vauxhall Motors’ support and encouragement we’re confident that 2016 will be a great debut year for the fledgling Vauxhall Motorsport Junior Rally Team.”

The BRC season opens with The Mid Wales Stages on March 5/6 with all Junior-category drivers will be competing for the prize of a subsidised entry in the Drive DMACK Trophy in 2017.
