Matthiesen Teams Up With JTR For MSA Formula Debut

1 Mins read

Reigning Ginetta Junior Rookie champion Patrik Matthiesen has signed with JTR for his debut campaign in MSA Formula this season.

After testing with a number of teams over the winter, Matthiesen has been named as JTR’s first driver for the 2016 season as he makes his single-seater debut.

The Danish racer made an immediate impact on the BTCC support package last season, taking ten class podiums en-route to the Ginetta Rookie title, as well as a maiden outright victory at Silverstone.

Matthiesen has been racking up the testing miles with his new team, tackling both Snetterton and Thruxton last week, before finishing up tenth overall in the official series test at Brands Hatch on Wednesday.

“The decision was not really that difficult, because I feel good here. I have great confidence in JTR’s mechanics and engineers,” Matthiesen told racermag.dk.

“It should not however detract from the great work that Tommy Schroter and Benny Simonsen have done with me. I look forward to working with JTR and Nick Tandy.”

Matthiesen becomes the fifth Ginetta Junior driver to graduate to MSA Formula this season, joining Jamie Caroline (Jamun), Billy Monger (JHR), Frank Bird (Fortec) and Devlin DeFrancesco (Carlin).
