After finishing the 2015 GP3 Series campaign in 12th place Koiranen GP‘s Ralph Boschung is hoping to build on the experience he gained last year, although with the introduction of the GP/16 getting to grips with the new car is vital for a successful championship challenge.
Throughout the three tests Boschung consistently produced top-10 lap times as he got to grips with the new car. For the next three seasons the drivers will change in a 1.4-litre V6 engine producing 400bhp – radical aerodynamic changes have also been introduced to increase overtaking as well as improve driver safety.
The competition is high for Boschung this season as he will have to take on the likes of Ferrari Driver Academy members Charles Leclerc, Giuliano Alesi and Antonio Fuoco, as well as McLaren junior Nyck de Vries and Renault Sport‘s Jack Aitken.
Boschung will also have a a decent benchmark in his own team in the form of Matthew Parry who had three podium finishes with Koiranen in 2015.
For this season the drivers’ will race at nine different venues which includes GP3’s maiden visit to Malaysia.
Boschung commented: “All three pre-season tests with Koiranen GP have been very positive, after seven days of intense preparations, I feel perfectly integrated within the team.
“We ticked off all the items on our programme and I could continue to get acquainted with the new GP3/16.
“The competition will be very tough again this year in GP3 with a lot of F1-affiliated drivers. I’m confident that my experience from last year, combined with Koiranen GP’s expertise, will enable me to take another step in 2016. I can’t wait for the season to get underway in Barcelona in just three weeks!”
