Brown Takes Lights To Flag Victory In Donington Opener

1 Mins read

Lewis Brown turned his maiden Ginetta Junior Championship pole position into a first race win in the championship with a lights-to-flag success in the opening race at Donington Park.

Brown and fellow front-row starter Stuart Middleton were the pace-setters throughout the fifteen minute encounter, quickly breaking away from the pack following an early safety car period.

It wasn’t plain sailing for the duo though, with a rain shower during the interlude leaving them and the rest of the field with tricky conditions to contend with for the remainder of the race.

Brown coped with them perfectly though, pulling out a two second advantage at the front before maintaining it in the closing stages – with Middleton a comfortable second.

The battle for the final podium position was decided at the start, with Dan Harper producing a great launch off the line to take the spot – which he maintained despite increasing pressure from Dave Wooder.

Will Tregurtha held fifth throughout, while Seb Priaulx was sixth for a large portion of the race, before losing out in the latter stages following a close-fought battle with Geri Nicosia and Tom Gamble.

Gamble eventually emerged in sixth ahead of Priaulx, the former completing the Rookie Cup podium, with Nicosia slipping to tenth in the closing laps behind Kyle Hornby and Max Bird.
