Patrick Simon, who is well known for his commentary career for Sport 1 in Germany, will be making his rallycross debut at his home round at Hockenheim next weekend in the RX Lites Cup.
The TV personality won the 2011 European Le Mans Series for Pegasus Racing tested an RX Lites car at the pre-season test at Hockenheim. Simon explained that the mix of gravel and tarmac was a blast.
“I’m a racetrack driver,” the German told the RX Lites website, “I’ve done one rally in my life before, so to mix it up now was a great lifetime experience. I had really, really great fun at the test.
“I know that the level of driving skill is high in RX Lites, so I don’t expect that much. The young guns are really hot, they’re really born into this and for me I really have to adapt into it.
“But, if it’s raining then maybe my chances will grow a bit. I know quite a lot about how Hockenheim is in the wet, so maybe that will help.”
Simon will have his hands full during this weekend as he will also be on commentating duties for the DTM support event, the Audi TT Cup.
“For me it’s no problem,” said Simon, “I love my job so I can do it all day long, every day.”
