Sebastian Saavedra to make GRC Début in Phoenix

1 Mins read

Sebastian Saavedra will make his rallycross début this weekend at the opening rounds of the 2016 Red Bull Global Rallycross season.

The IndyCar driver will driver the number 77 Ford Fiesta, backed by Red Bull GRC tyre supplier BF Goodrich, at the first two events of the year at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Phoenix, Arizona.

“I’m really excited to make my Red Bull GRC debut this weekend in Phoenix,” said the 2009 Indy Lights Rookie of the Year. “I’ve known a lot of the people in the series for a long time, and I’m really looking forward to adding rallycross to my resume. It’ll be the first time I’ve ever raced anything like this, so it will be a challenge that I’m excited to welcome. Four wheels and high horsepower? Sign me up any day!”

Although new to Red Bull GRC, Saavedra has previously driven for team owners Bryan Herta, Michael Andretti, James Sullivan, Jimmy Vasser, and Chip Ganassi – all of which run GRC entries.

Red Bull GRC CEO Colin Dyne was thrilled to welcome another star from the wider motorsport world into the series.

“We are excited to welcome Sebastian to Red Bull GRC in Phoenix,” he said. “Sebastian is just the latest of many world-class racing drivers to give rallycross a try, and we expect to see many more in the years to come. We’re looking forward to see how he stacks up against our field in his début this weekend.”
