The G-Drive Racing trio of Rene Rast, Roman Rusinov and Will Stevens will lead the LMP2 field away at the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans after securing the class pole position.
The team, who also took pole position at both Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps, were brilliantly led by German Rast, who secured the pole position with two excellent laps during Wednesday’s qualifying session, with his best time of 3:36.605 enough to warrant pole.
“The quick laps I did were good ones but it is hard to tell how much quicker we could have gone because of the weather,” said Rast. “I am satisfied we are on pole position so we have the best possible start for the beginning of the race.
“The G-Drive Racing team was excellent again and it is nice to show what we can do, but the big test comes this weekend.”
Team-mate Rusinov was pleased to see the #26 Oreca-Nissan secure the pole position, and gave high praise to Rast for the job he did during Wednesday’s qualifying showdown.
“It was a great team effort to secure the pole position,” said Rusinov. “Rene showed he was in a different class with those times and we are all really proud and happy.
“But of course this is a very small part of what we have to achieve. We know there will be some very strong competition, but so far we have shown good pace and consistency, so we enter the race with additional confidence.”
