To round out our coverage of the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans we bring you the fourth of our galleries of images from the race care of SpeedChills.com’s FIA WEC photographer Craig Robertson. For the final gallery we focus on the LM GTE Am class, the pro-am class of road based machines.
In a class were the Ford wasn’t eligible, there were only four manufacturers represented but each of those manufacturers stood a chance. The real British interest in the class was the #99 Beechdean liveried Aston Martin Racing Vantage which took seventh. The battle at the head of the field was between the plethora of AF Corse run Ferrari entries and the Porsches of Gulf Racing UK and Abu Dhabi Proton Racing. In Corvette territory we had two Am cars for the first time. Larbre ran their car as usual but Team AAI also fielded a Vette for American broadcaster and Le Mans legend Jonny O’Connell, United Autosport regular Mark Patterson and Brit Oliver Byrant.
When you include the spare car Corvette brought to Le Sarthe just in case, all five surviving Corvette C7.R chassis were in France last weekend.
