Fresh off his maiden GP2 Series victory two weeks ago at Silverstone, Pierre Gasly comfortably ended the sole practice session at the Hungaroring with the quickest time.

With drivers struggling for grip due after the track was completely resurfaced ahead of the event, the Red Bull-backed Prema Racing driver set a time of 1:27.138, almost half a second clear of the chasing pack, with Gasly 0.457 seconds clear of DAMSAlex Lynn.

Lynn was one driver to improve substantially on his second run to move into second ahead of Sergey Sirotkin of ART Grand Prix, while Raffaele Marciello ended the session fourth for Russian Time.

Nobuharu Matsushita made it two ART’s inside the top five, with the Japanese racer just ahead of Arden International’s Norman Nato, while championship leader Oliver Rowland was seventh for MP Motorsport.

Antonio Giovinazzi was eighth quickest for Prema Racing but was more than one second adrift of his team-mate out front, while Luca Ghiotto, a podium finisher in the Sprint race at Silverstone two weeks ago was ninth for Trident.

Sergio Canamasas completed the top ten for Carlin despite a quick spin a turn twelve, with a number of other drivers finding themselves running wide at turns one and eleven as they got acclimatised to the new track surface.
