Oliver Rowland secured his best finish of the season with a runners-up spot in the Sprint race at the Red Bull Ring, with the MP Motorsport driver surviving the changeable conditions on Sunday.
The race started wet and was interrupted by two safety car periods, with Rowland able to move into second ahead of Norman Nato early on in the race, although he was unable to do anything about the other Racing Engineering driver Jordan King, who went on to claim victory.
Rowland now turns his attention to the round at Silverstone, where he made his GP2 Series debut in 2015 and secured a double points finish despite not having driven the car before the weekend had begun.
“I was sitting pretty well at the start but I knew if it didn’t rain again it would be dry and that the tyres would be quite difficult,” said Rowland. “Things went quite well here and I’m happy with this result and for the team as well who deserve it as they do an incredible job.
“Another podium feels really good. Now I want to win in Silverstone next week. Obviously, it’s my home race so I want to qualify on the front row and win the Feature Race.”
