Trident Motorsport‘s, Sandy Stuvik led the way in the forty-five minute Free Practice session ahead of Alexander Albon and Jack Aitken at Silverstone.
Just the one new face to the line up with Jenzer Motorsport replacing Oscar Tunjo with rookie Arjun Maini. Additionally, Giuliano Alesi returned to track action after being deemed not fit to race at Spielberg following his practice shunt.
At the early stages it was Brit Jake Hughes leading the way ahead of Alesi and fellow Briton Jake Dennis.
A Virtual Safety Car was brought out after ART Grand Prix‘s Nirei Fukuzumi stopped on track for a matter of moments but he soon got going again and the VSC period quickly ended.
After 20 minutes, Hughes held a one second advantage at the top of the timing, Albon managed to find some pace and took over at the top by over half a second. Series leader Charles Leclerc was also on a good lap and leapfrogged up into second fastest.
It seemed, however, that Stuvik still had time up his sleeve and lapped 0.127 seconds faster than Albon to takeover as P1.
The session was brought to a halt due to a red flag as a result of debris in Turns 11, 12 and 13. The clock continued to tick down and once the session was restarted there was just four minutes left to go – but still plenty of time for movement in the order.
Arden International‘s Aitken, moved himself up into third place, whilst his teammate Dennis claimed fourth spot. It was short lived for the latter as Nyck de Vries demoted the Brit to fifth in the dying moments.
Stuvik remained on top, ahead of Albon, Aitken, de Vries, Dennis, Antonio Fuoco, Leclerc, Hughes, Fukuzumi and Matthew Parry.
Qualifying for the Feature Race takes place on Saturday 9 July at 8.45 local time.
