Qualifying Key To Streather’s Clio Cup Podium Challenge

1 Mins read

Paul Streather is focusing on improving his qualifying performances to give himself a chance of challenging for a return to the Renault UK Clio Cup podium.

Streather was the first race-winner of the 2016 season back at Brands Hatch in April, winning on his third ever Clio Cup race with Finesse Motorsport.

The Leicestershire racer hasn’t returned to the podium since then however, but has secured half a dozen top six finishes, including three in the last four races.

Streather feels his chances of getting back into podium contention relies upon him improving his qualifying results, having only qualified in the top ten three times in the last four meetings.

“The race pace is there, everything is there to be honest, we just need qualifying to work out – if we can be on the top two or three rows of the grid we can definitely challenge for the podium,” said Streather, who heads to Rockingham sixth in the standings.

“We’ve had some very good races this year, picking up a lot of places, so we know we can race well, I just need to help myself out more by qualifying higher up the grid. We need some more time spent working on qualifying, weather dependant that’s the plan for the test day on Friday.”
