Having notified the Carlin team prior to the last FIA European Formula 3 Championship round of his decision to call time in the category, Alessio Lorandi is to join Jenzer Motorsport for the final two rounds of the GP3 Series.

“It’s relieving for me to be back behind the wheel of a race car after the early end of my FIA F3 experience.” Lorandi commented. “I thank Andreas Jenzer for his enthusiasm and for the trust he placed in me by lining-up a third car for the two final rounds of the GP3 Series.

“It is a really interesting and competitive series featuring some of my previous Formula 3 contenders like Charles Leclerc, Jake Dennis and Alexander Albon. In addition, the same team fields my 2015 team-mate Arjun Maini.

“There is a whole lot to discover in terms of the car and the Pirelli tires. I will line-up for a learning experience at Sepang, a track that I find particularly challenging and fascinating, and I can’t wait to take my first steps in this championship”

The Italian does have a lot to learn, having never previously driven the GP3/16 meaning he will have to adapt quickly to the Dallara racer.

Team owner Andreas Jenzer commented: “We are pleased to have a Race Winner from the FIA F3 Euroseries in our team. Alessio has done the maximum preparation possible in the simulator and with our engineers and we are looking forward to see him in our car.”

Lorandi will get his first taste of GP3 running at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia on Thursday 29 September at 15:15 local time.
