Antonio Giovinazzi has lost his front row grid slot for the Feature race at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza after his car was found to have insufficient tyre pressures following the qualifying session on Friday.
The Italian, who sits second in the championship behind Prema Racing team-mate Pierre Gasly, will be joined on the back row by Nabil Jeffri, who suffered the same fate in his Arden International machine after qualifying a season’s best eighth.
Prema have accepted responsibility for the error and apologised to the Italian, with the team revealing the pressure for the left front tyre was 0.1 psi lower than permitted, which was not giving Giovinazzi an advantage but did break the regulations.
With Giovinazzi no longer on the front row, Gasly will start alongside Russian Time’s Artem Markelov on Saturday afternoon, with the second row now filled by Arthur Pic and Mitch Evans of the Rapax and Campos Racing teams respectively.
