Briton Jack Aitken topped the first ever GP3 Series session at the Sepang International Circuit, lapping at a 1:50.883 with DAMSKevin Jörg and ART Grand Prix‘s Nyck de Vries completing the top three.

There has been two changes since the last round at Monza, with 18-year-old Alessio Lorandi coming in for Jenzer Motorsport and Koiranen GP running with just two drivers – Matevos Isaakyan and Matthew Parry.

The early pace was set by Alexander Albon, ahead of his team-mate de Vries and Jake Hughes. Trident and Ferrari Academy Driver Antonio Fuoco took over in P2 soon after.

Albon was also the first to lap in the 1m51s, soon followed by team mate Nirei Fukuzumi. Sandy Stuvik was on the tails of his countryman lapping just 0.001s shy.

Series leader Charles Leclerc then took his turn at the top of the pile before being bettered by team-mate de Vries.

Aitken was on a charge and soon shot to P1, before de Vries retaliated to take P1 from the Briton. Another driver surging up the timesheet was Jörg who shot to the top in the final moments, before Aitken once again claimed P1 as the chequered flag dropped.

Aitken topped the session from Jörg, De Vries, Jake Dennis, Santino Ferrucci, Maini, Albon, Fukuzumi, Leclerc and Akash Nandy.

The drivers next take to track for qualifying which takes place at 16.50 local time on Friday.
