Lucky Number Seven For JamSport With Finale Additions

1 Mins read

JamSport Racing will run a mammoth seven-car entry in the Renault UK Clio Cup finale at Brands Hatch next weekend after adding James Grint and Paul Donkin to their ranks.

After fielding five cars for the first time at Silverstone last weekend, JamSport will now run what is believed to be the most cars entered by one team in UK Clio Cup history at Brands.

Donkin returns to the championship for the first time this season, while Rallycross star Grint will swap his 600bhp Peugeot 208 for a Clio Cup racer for his series debut.

Grint stepped up to the main ‘Supercar’ class in the British Rallycross Championship this year and currently lies tenth in the standings, with a best finish of third coming at Lydden Hill in March.

“In rallycross you have to be a very good circuit racer on the asphalt as well as on the loose, so coming into circuit racing at a very high level of competition is definitely going to improve my driving,” said Grint, brother of Harry Potter actor Rupert.

“Certainly having looked around the UK Clio Cup stands out as the best championship to dip into – I’m jumping in at the deep end but am also looking forward to it immensely.”

Donkin, whose company’s name features on Ant Whorton-Eales’ Clio, made his Clio debut at Brands Hatch GP in 2014, before making a one-off outing at his home circuit Croft last season.

“It’s been fun supporting Ant and watching from the sidelines but there’s nothing like having a go yourself and this great opportunity was too good to miss when it came up,” said Donkin.

“I’ve been doing pretty well at club level motorsport the past few years but in that time this championship has gone from strength to strength so I’m not expecting an easy ride!”

JamSport, who head into the season finale with a chance of winning the title with Whorton-Eales, are also running Luke Kidsley, Graham Field, George Jackson and Chris Smiley next weekend.

Team boss Jamie Going added: “What a way to end what is effectively only our second season in the Renault UK Clio Cup – going for the title and also running seven cars. Brands Hatch promises to be quite a weekend in JamSport’s history.”
