WDE Motorsport have become the latest leading Renault UK Clio Cup outfit to announce their ambitions to enter the new Junior championship in 2017.
The Ashford-based outfit have previous experience competing in Junior-level racing, having previously contested the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship.
WDE made their debut into Clio competition in 2014 and have become an established front-running outfit, with three-time champion Paul Rivett taking all three of their race wins to date.
Announced late last month, the Junior Clio Cup will be for 14 to 17 year old drivers, who will race in restricted versions of the same cars used in the main Clio Cup.
“Drivers are going to get what they really go into junior racing for. I think it’s going to be great for junior motor racing in Britain,” commented WDE Team Principal Wayne Eason.
“There is factory support from a big automotive brand in Renault plus a proper ladder of apprenticeship that can set them up for the senior UK Clio Cup and take them all the way to touring cars.
“We also know from experience that the product is excellent and how much it can help bring on a driver in terms of engineering ability and race craft. I predict that UK Clio Cup Junior is going to boom.”
WDE are the fourth current Clio Cup team to announce plans to expand into the Junior series, joining Ciceley Motorsport and a combined entry from Team Pyro and 20Ten Racing.
