Whorton-Eales Promoted To Victory; Bushell Lodges Appeal

1 Mins read

Mike Bushell has been removed from victory in the opening Renault UK Clio Cup race at Silverstone after being deemed to have exceeded track limits when taking the race lead.

Bushell had piled chief championship rival Ant Whorton-Eales under pressure across the second half of the race, going on to make a decisive move at Brooklands on the penultimate lap.

The Team Pyro racer was deemed by the series’ Clerk of the Course to have exceeded track limits at the exit of the corner when making the move however.

The change in result hands JamSport Racing’s Whorton-Eales an eighth victory of the season so far, with Bushell relegated to second position with a time penalty.

Bushell has lodged an appeal against the clerk’s decision however, which will be heard by the championship’s stewards tomorrow morning (18th September).

The outcome could be pivotal in the title battle – if Bushell is reinstated then the gap at the top of the standings is increased to 26 points, if not it remains at 18 points.

The second race of the weekend, to be televised live on ITV4, is scheduled to start at 13:45 tomorrow.
