Emil Bernstorff will make a welcome return to Arden International when he makes his GP2 Series bow with the team in the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
The Anglo-Danish driver will link-up with Nabil Jeffri for the final two races of the season at the Yas Marina Circuit in place of Jimmy Eriksson, who called an end to his season before the previous round in Malaysia.
Bernstorff was a race winner in the GP3 Series in both 2014 and 2015, the latter with Arden, but he was unable to make the step up full time to GP2 in 2016 despite testing with Arden in the post-season test last year.
Bernstorff also tested with Strakka Racing in Formula V8 3.5 with a view to a drive before the team withdrew its participation in the championship before the season started.
“First of all I would like to thank Arden for this opportunity,” said Bernstorff. “It will be a steep learning curve but I’m really looking forward to the challenge and to working with the team again.”
Team Boss Garry Horner is pleased that Bernstorff has been reunited with Arden, and believes he will do a good job despite such a limited amount of time in the car this season.
“We are pleased to give Emil the opportunity to race with us at the final race weekend at Abu Dhabi, and are confident that he will equip himself well, in spite of the fact that he has had limited track time in a GP2 car,” said Horner.
